Singareni bags water conservation award

Hyderabad: Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), state-run mining company and engaged in thermal and solar power generation, has been awarded another prestigious award as the best industry (Corporate Social Responsibility) in the Water Conservation category at the first national level conference on rivers held in Hyderabad over the last two days under the Indian River Basin Council and the Indian Himalayan River Basin Council in collaboration with the Telangana State Government. N Balaram, director (personnel, finance), and K Suryanarayana, GM (coordinator), received the award from T Harish Rao, Minister of Health and Finance, Telangana.
The company said that sand from overburden dumps is being used to reduce the use of sand from river waters in an environmentally friendly manner, thereby contributing to the conservation of water resources as well as the environment. Singareni lauded its social responsibility to plant more than six crore plants for environmental protection in the districts where the industry is located.
N Balaram, Director (Personnel, Finance, P&P), said: "The CSR funding of about Rs70 crore per annum, made for the development of nearby villages and conservation of the environment. We are happy to receive the prestigious award for our CSR programs and development work in water conservation."
